Azalea Park Lights Festival is being planned…
With COVID in 2020, the event was cancelled. But, with cautious optimism, planners are getting ready to have the event in 2021. Organizers will meet on Saturday, 2021-10-30 to prepare the park, and start to string lights. They are looking for up to 80 volunteers that day to help. (We won’t have an official presence, but some members are planning to help.)
The planners have written to the club, to ask if we can sponsor an evening at the park, as we have done in the past. The request would be for (4) locations in the park, with (2) people at each location. They also suggest breaking the evening into shorter shifts (recommending two shifts for the (8) positions. Does anyone want to coordinate asking members if they can sign up, and which days might be better, so we can see if we can staff one night at the park?
Annual PBARC Member Meeting moved to OCT 2021
As September approached, COVID Delta variant was quickly rising in Curry County, Loeb Park was closed, and in-person meetings were not available. The Board Officers decided to postpone the meeting to 2021-10-16, in hopes that we’d be able to meet again in person more safely. As the date approached, our COVID numbers were lowering, Loeb Park would be open again, and it turned out to be a beautiful day in the park! Christie Lynn brought a Search and Rescue communications van from Del Norte County for show and tell, we had HF up and running, AND we could reach the new 146.84 repeater from the park! We had our annual Board Officer elections, and all who attended had a very good time.
Friday Morning Social Breakfast at Beachfront Bistro
Our new Friday morning meeting place is Beach Front Bistro, 16011 Boat Basin Road, still starting at 8:30am on Fridays.
Azalea Parade
Always Saturday prior to Memorial Day
Pelican Bay Amateur Radio Club has been participating in organizing the start of the Azalea Parade since 1980. It’s a fun service to our community and a good way to keep your radio skills sharp. If you have your technician license and a hand-held radio, be sure to add the next Azalea Parade to your calendar!
This year, due to COVID-19, the event was postponed until July 17th. As the date approached, we weren’t sure of the state and the county would be “opening up”, but we all planned to be ready. When the date came, we had two Net Control stations, and ran the event using the Incident Command System (ICS) model so that we could practice formal message handling.

Holiday Brunch
A fun get together during the holidays has been held at SeaQuake Brewery in Crescent City during the past two years, with members, friends and family. But, in 2020, we’ll be having the celebration at Beach Front Bistro, 16011 Boat Basin Road. We will have a $10.00 gift exchange, which always brings a lot of laughter. This is still on the calendar for December 5th, please mark your calendar to hold that date.
